Peter Schmeichel Tears Into Paul Pogba

Ex-Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has ripped into French midfielder Paul Pogba labeling him as the problem child at Old Trafford after United’s 1-1 draw against Arsenal on Monday night.

The 26-year-old Pogba returned to the starting eleven for the first time in almost over a month for the Red Devils in the Premier League after an ankle injury and played the whole ninety minutes in the game against Unai Emery’s Gunners.

Young Scottish midfielder Scott McTominay scored an absolute screamer into the right-hand top corner of the net just on the stroke of half time to give the home team the advantage into the break. However, the North London giants earned a crucial and thoroughly deserved point when Gabon striker Pierre Emerick Aubameyang equalized just 10 minutes after the restart.

The 30-year-old’s forward chipped the ball over Spanish goalkeeper David De Gea but his goal was initially disallowed for offside, only for the VAR review to correctly prove that the Arsenal attacker was played onside by English defender Harry Maguire and the goal was rightly allowed to stand.

But United threw away their lead in the second half and former club goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel expressed his feelings about the result. Schemichel also singled out midfielder Paul Pogba after the game claiming that the 26-year-old ace seems to get too much attention and he might be the problem at Manchester United.

While speaking to reporters after the game, the 55-year-old Dane raged out on the returning Pogba, “If Pogba is playing in this team he needs to speed it up a bit. He was seriously slowing it down, in the first 25 minutes just basically playing the ball backward. For a player of his caliber that was disappointing. I don’t understand what his role in this team is. Even when Ole made the substitutions and put Pogba further forward, not a lot happened. There were two very good passes in the game from Pogba but it’s two, it’s not 15. And I see that as a problem. He takes up so much attention. It kind of feels like he’s a problem child in this team.”
