As reported by The Times, Manchester United legendary goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel has given his verdict on Solskjaer’s future. He has talked in favour of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and wants the manager to stay at the club.
Right now, United have been balancing on the edge of the sword. A good win and then a few disappointing losses, that is what this season has witnessed so far. Pundits and fans have been ripping apart the manager and some players for their disastrous performances.
For a club like Manchester United whose standards are always set high, it is not a demand but a compulsion for the team to challenge for trophies. Many have questioned Solskjaer’s capability to deliver silverware this season.

Schmeichel who was part of the Sir Alex Ferguson era has also played with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and knows the manager quite well. When asked about the recent rumours of Solskjaer being at risk of getting sacked, he said:
“It’s [unbalanced wage bill] one of Ole’s problems. He is still cleaning up. Players who shouldn’t be there on long contracts and high wages. Sometimes you wonder who is doing what with Ole and the coaches. Who is the real boss? Who decides? When he is interviewed pre-match, he says: ‘We put this team out, we decided.’ I think: ‘You are the boss.”
“The problem Ole has is that in this world of quick fixes and fast news he has to win yesterday. It has to be delivered now. But it’s not the real world. We stopped that development for a period and our competitors closed the gap then ran away.”
“We have to catch them but I believe — in the way we have done in the biggest periods with Sir Matt [Busby] and with Sir Alex — that if you build and take time then you get it right for a very long time. That’s what I meant with that line about heart and soul.
“Liverpool, how long did it take them to get it right? Only when they found a manager who understood the club. Ole is there now and I hope he stays. But if there is a change in the next couple of years, I hope the club really does the due diligence.”
Solksjaer had his good points as a manager. He has build a really strong team unlike our previous managers David Moyes and Louis Van Gaal. He also structured the club really well and has made progress after every season. But let this praise not take you away from the actual fact.
Peter Schmeichel talked about getting some more time for the manager, but not many are in favour of that decision. Considering that the recent transfer window went so well for Manchester United as they brought in world-class players, now it is the time to put all those plans into completion.
There is a difference between a good team and a champion team, and Manchester United need to move out of that average playing style if they want to turn into a genuine title-challenging club.
Premier League clubs like Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are looking a class above and are ruthlessly dominating teams every weekend. It is the quality that we are lacking while playing against lower placed teams.
A change is needed for the betterment of the club.
