According to the latest reports, Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba could be a doubt for the game against Arsenal on Monday night at Old Trafford.
The 26-year-old Pogba completed 90 minutes in Wednesday night’s EFL Cup tie against Rochdale at Old Trafford, where the Red Devils needed a penalty shoot-out to see off their League One opponent after a 1-1 draw. Having won the game and progressed through to the next round of the League Cup, United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a fresh problem.
Although Pogba did not take a spot-kick he missed a team-bonding event afterward with the fans, adding fuel to the latest round of speculation that he will seek an exit from Old Trafford in the January transfer window.
But Norwegian boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed with reporters on Friday that his midfield ace Pogba suffered a swollen ankle during the Rochdale game in the Carabao Cup, having only just returned from a similar complaint before the game.
The 46-year-old also stated that Pogba might be a doubt for the game against fierce rivals Arsenal when the North London side visit Manchester United on Monday night and therefore wasn’t part of the celebrations at the full-time whistle, “The situation is he finished the game – 90 minutes, fantastic – but got a knock to his ankle, which is very swollen. It was better for him not to go there with the team. He’s in a race for Monday. He’s a doubt, that’s just the way it is.”
United have a few injury concerns ahead of the big game as Marcus Rashford is also out injured and Anthony Martial may feature. With no real senior players to lead the attack, Solskjaer might have to field 17-year-old Mason Greenwood as a starter.
