With the Covid-19 pandemic causing a shutdown of all almost all footballing activities all around the world, the Premier League followed too. All the fixtures in the Premier League were postponed for an indefinite time, till the situation became favourable in England. The football returned in mid-June finally, but with changed rules to protect players from injuries due to the jam-packed schedules.
Since the restart, teams were allowed to make up to five substitutions with drinks break in the middle of each half. The match-day squad was also increased to 20 instead of 18 players keeping in mind the five substitutions. But now, after everything seems settled Premier League clubs have voted against using the same rules next season.
11 out of the 20 Premier League clubs have voted against using up to five substitutions meaning the clubs will be allowed to make three changes only. The match-squad has also been sized-down and will be restored to 18 again, once the Premier League kicks off in 12th of September. The drinks breaks will also be cancelled sighting the restoring of normalcy in England.
With all the new rules being chucked off in the Premier League next season, the league back on its way to achieving normalcy. VAR and goal-line technology will remain constant though but will go through certain changes in technical aspects to make the beautiful game even fairer.
