Leny Yoro, the promising Lille defender, has decided to join Manchester United, making him their second signing of the summer.
The 18-year-old has agreed to a deal worth up to £58.7m, following United’s £52m offer being accepted by Lille last week.
Despite interest from Real Madrid, Yoro chose United, joining Joshua Zirkzee, who recently arrived from Bologna in a £36.5 million move.
This acquisition brings United’s total spending to £95.2 million for the summer, with more signings anticipated as the club aims to sell several squad members.
United plans a significant overhaul of their defense and is open to signing up to three center-backs.
They have already agreed on personal terms with Bayern Munich defender Matthijs de Ligt and had two bids rejected by Everton for Jarrad Branthwaite.
Yoro, who is expected to travel with United to Los Angeles for their pre-season tour next week, finds himself in a situation similar to Raphael Varane’s when he was a teenager at Lens in 2011.
United had moved for Varane, but he chose Real Madrid after an intervention by club ambassador Zinedine Zidane.
