Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick discusses why Marcus Rashford’s form has dipped since the game against Aston Villa.
Manchester United manager Ralf Rangnick said in his post-match press conference, as quoted by the Daily Mail, that he couldn’t pinpoint the cause of Marcus Rashford’s drop in form following a dismal performance against Aston Villa.
The Old Trafford supporters were ecstatic on Monday night when the Red Devils advanced to the FA Cup fourth round. It was a difficult game against Villa, but the youngsters prevailed. Man United, on the other hand, had multiple chances to win the game.
Rashford, in particular, was at the heart of the majority of them. Since the departure of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the Englishman has had a dramatic drop in form. Since the end of October, the youngster has not found the back of the net. On Monday night, he did not improve his performance against the opposition.
He was having trouble dribbling past or even outpacing his opponents. In the counter-attacks, he likewise had a low output. The audience, understandably, jumped on his back. After the game, Rangnick said he couldn’t pinpoint the cause of the 24-year-poor old’s form.
He said:
“Actually, I do not know. He is trying hard and he is in training; he was doing really well in the last couple of days. That is why he was quite rightly in the starting XI. I think in the first half we found him quite often, we also tried to get him into the box. For strikers, it is important that they score goals on and off, that there are moments of success. Of course, it would be good for Marcus if he could score a goal. But as long as he is trying, as long as he is training well, I don’t see much of a problem.”
It’s no secret that several members of the current squad are having trouble adjusting to Rangnick’s method. The German coach is attempting to establish a sense of identity and a distinct style of play. Rashford, on the other hand, does not appear to be adjusting well to the new alterations.
There have been moments when he has done everything well but fails to make the last pass or hit the target. However, he can be attributed to the fact that he is always trying to accomplish something. He was attempting to produce something for the frontline, despite his poor performance in the Cup tie.

He should, however, be among the goals shortly, particularly once the entire team has gelled. In a volatile environment, few players thrive, and Rashford isn’t the only one who lacks confidence. In recent weeks, neither Bruno Fernandes, Mason Greenwood, nor Jadon Sancho has shone brightly.
It’s a matter of practising and mastering the fundamentals over and over again. The English international is a top future prospect and one of our best players. He may not be in great form right now, but he has the potential to turn things around as the season progresses.
Almost every elite player has a bad run of form at some point throughout their career. Even the great Lionel Messi went a whole season at Barcelona without scoring a goal. But it’s how a player reacts to a bad run of form that defines them, and Rashford has proven time and time again that he’s up to the task at Manchester United.
