As reported by Fabrizio Romano, Rangers are reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Jack Butland on a free transfer this summer. As per the journalist, the two parties are close to reaching an agreement in the coming days.
The 30 years old keeper joined United on loan in January when Martin Dubravka was recalled by Newcastle United.
However, he has not made any appearances for the Red Devils, as David de Gea has been the preferred choice in Premier League, Europa League, and FA Cup matches during the second half of the season.
The Red Devils were rumoured to be interested in making Butland’s loan move permanent. However, it now seems that he will be joining Rangers in Scotland to display his skills in the Premiership.

Butland has faced significant challenges in securing playing time in recent years. His stint at Crystal Palace, where he joined in 2020, saw him make only 17 senior appearances, remaining on the fringes of the squad.
While staying at United could potentially result in higher wages for Butland, the chances of him getting minutes on the field at Old Trafford are slim.
The club’s first-choice goalkeeper, David de Gea, is on the verge of signing a new contract and is expected to retain his position for the upcoming season.
Additionally, United intends to recruit a new goalkeeper as their backup option. Opting to sign for Rangers would provide Butland with the opportunity to secure regular playing time in Glasgow, which should be a priority for him at this stage of his career.
