According to the Manchester Evening News, Manchester United star centre-back, Raphael Varane will be available to play for France in the World Cup after suffering an injury against Chelsea in the Premier League on October 22.
The 29-year-old has also played a crucial role for his national side throughout the years. Varane was a key member of Deschamps’ team in 2018.
On their journey to the final, he participated in every minute of the competition. By defeating Croatia 4-2, Les Bleus won the world title and Varane further established his name in the squad.
In 2014, the 29-year-old was likewise consistent. However, the French were defeated 1-0 by Germany in the quarterfinals and were unable to advance. Recently, Les Bleus were disappointing throughout Euro 2020. Switzerland defeated them on penalties in the round of 16 and hence, they were eliminated from the competition.
Varane joined the Red Devils in the summer of 2021 after leaving Real Madrid. His debut year under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Ralf Rangnick was disappointing and hampered by injuries.
Fortunately, under Erik ten Hag, the 29-year-old is back to his best. After the dismal 4-0 defeat against Brentford, the France international took Harry Maguire’s position in the starting lineup. The centre-back and Lisandro Martinez have since forged a strong pairing.
If Deschamps decides to include Varane in the final team, it will be his third World Cup with France. However, it is still unclear whether he will be slotted right into the starting lineup due to his lack of match fitness.
