Rashford can kickstart his season against Liverpool according to Darren Fletcher

Former Manchester midfielder Darren Fletcher has picked under pressure Marcus Rashford as a potential match-winner for Liverpool clash.

Fletcher also backed Paul Pogba and said that Pogba puts up strong performances even when match situations are difficult.

Rashford has endured a difficult start to the season having only scored one goal from open play for Manchester United so far this term, but his goal and performance for England in their 6-0 win over Bulgaria on Monday showed signs of promise.

United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has backed Rashford repeatedly over this season but is coming under increasing scrutiny in his own position with the latest reports saying that the Red Devils have already lined up Massimiliano Allegri to replace the Norwegian.

But Fletcher, who played for United between 2003 and 2015, believes the visit of Jurgen Klopp’s side could provide the perfect moment for Rashford and his team-mates to ‘click’.

I think he is feeling the pressure of that [being the main man] a little bit this season, you want to say to him “relax, don’t try too hard”, Fletcher told Sky Sports.

We want him to try, obviously, but it’s a case of not trying too hard – wait for your opportunities.

‘I think for Marcus Rashford, like Manchester United, it could be the game that kick-starts the season.

‘He’s a real talisman and the goals and performances are in him, all it takes is something to click.’

Defeat by Newcastle last time out left United just two points off the relegation places after eight games.

Solskjaer’s side is expected to add to their forward ranks in January with Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic a target.
