Ex-Manchester United first-team coach Rene Meulensteen has claimed that English forward Marcus Rashford should look up to Juventus and Portugal talisman Cristiano Ronaldo to improve his goalscoring touch.
Rashford had a great start to the new Premier League season as he netted a brace against fierce rivals Chelsea on the opening day of the season. But that spark has seemed to fizzle out off-late as he has come under the scrutiny of the United faithful for below-par performances unable to find the net in his last three matches as well as missing a penalty against Crystal Palace.
There are high hopes from the 21-year-old Englishman as United fans view him as the future of the club to lead the line but Rashford has so far failed to live up to that meteoric rise managing only 39 goals in three years for the Red Devils. In order to be considered one of the greatest players in football, Rashford must improve on his finishing and become a lot more consistent by scoring on a regular basis.
And former Manchester United coach Rene Meulensteen has admitted that Cristiano Ronaldo is the perfect example for Rashford to look up to. The 55-year-old Dutchman who worked with the Portuguese winger during his time at Old Trafford said, “In many ways, Cristiano is unique because he had such huge belief in his own ability. But I do think that Marcus Rashford has got a similar mindset to be the best player he can – and I think he should use Cristiano as his role model.I’m not saying Marcus can be the next Ronaldo – because I think Cristiano is a one-off talent. Ronaldo is one of the all-time greats who will be remembered alongside Pele, Maradona, Messi, Eusebio, and Cruyff. But Marcus can create his own reputation as a fantastic player if he wants it badly enough. That comes only by scoring more goals, winning more games and lifting more titles. Rashford has played most of the early games of his career as a wide attacker – as Cristiano did.”
