Manchester United are flying high in the Premier League after a poor start to the season, as the side came back again to win against West Ham. Next up for the Red Devils, the squad travels to Germany to have a vital face off against RB Leipzig in the Champions League. Manchester United will need to win the game to go to the Round of 16 but will be without several key players for the game.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been pretty good with his starting XIs and substitutions so far this season. But for this game, Fred has been suspended due to his red card against Paris last week. The likes of Martial and Cavani are also doubtful for the game as both the front men were injured and taken off during the games against West Ham.
It will be interesting to see how Solskjaer picks his team thus we look to predict how Manchester United will lineup against RB Leipzig this midweek.
THE 4-2-3-1
The 4-2-3-1 is Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s favourite system and formation at Manchester United as it gives a balance to the team. With a fit Paul Pogba doing well against West Ham in the Premier League it is very likely of him to again get a starting spot against a must-win game. But with Martial and Cavani both struggling with injury, Greenwood is very likely to start the game as Manchester United’s No.9.
Donny Van de Beek has become some kind of Champions League specialist for the Red Devils lately and done very well for the Red Devils. Leipzig are a quick side and thus playing Juan Mata might prove costly on the right side as Angelino has done very well going forward. The likes of Rashford and Bruno Fernandes are a given in any matchday for Manchester United as they have been the best performers for the club this season.
Fred has been suspended from the game and Solskjaer will hope that Manchester United don’t miss his tenacity on the pitch this midweek.
THE 4-4-2 (DIAMOND)
Solskjaer has used the 4-4-2 (Diamond) system extensively this season as well as he has a lot of options in the midfield. A midfield four of Matic, Pogba, Van de Beek and Bruno Fernandes looks world-class on paper but it is yet to be seen on the pitch as all four haven’t played together in their best positions yet. Such a system might work in the midweek as this will be very offensive and will keep the ball very well for Manchester United.
David De Gea is most likely to come back in goal for the Red Devils after suffering from an injury against Southampton as he also struggled against PSG.
THE 5-3-2
The 3-5-2 is another system Solskjaer has used in big and crunch games giving the team a solid defensive shape. But without Luke Shaw, it will be difficult for Manchester United to cope up with the offence of RB Leipzig in such a system but Tuanzebe has done well in the recent past and will up the spot. RB Leipzig play with a similar 3-5-2 formation thus it might be a smart idea to got with the same system for Manchester United.
