Manchester United FC have had an initial bid of £71m rejected by Serie A side Napoli for world-class centre back Kalidou Koulibaly. It is reported that the Italian side will not accept any bids for their player under the amount of £89m.
Koulibaly has emerged as one of the best centre backs in world football in recent times, with his performances for Napoli making him a major target for European sides such as Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool FC.
The Red Devils are believed to be very keen on signing Koulibaly and hope that the deal can be finalized ahead of the start of the 2020-21 Premier League campaign.
Manchester United FC manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is looking to sign the player, who he believes can be a perfect addition to the Red Devils defence and partner new signing Harry Maguire in the centre back positions. The 28-year old Koulibaly is tipped to leave Napoli at the end of the current campaign, having stayed at the club for much longer than expected and notching up 233 appearances for the Italian side during his time in Naples.
Napoli could further lose out on their desire to keep Koulibaly at the club if the Italian side misses out on a UEFA Champions League spot for next season. The team are currently seated sixth in the Serie A table after a horrifying start to the season which saw former manager Carlo Ancelotti getting the sack and the future of important players at the club such as Koulibaly, Dries Mertens, and Lorenzo Insigne being left uncertain.
Solskjaer is hopeful of a successful end to the negotiations between the Red Devils and Napoli over the transfer of the 28-year old Koulibaly. The player will be welcomed at Old Trafford by a great number of fans who desire of Manchester United FC of going back to their winning ways under former managerial icon Sir Alex Ferguson.
Koulibaly, at 28, is in the prime of his career and can be a fantastic signing for Manchester United FC if he can replicate his performances which he has shown at Napoli in the Premier League.
