The latest reports have claimed that Premier League outfit Manchester United is looking to step up their chase to sign Leicester City centre back Harry Maguire this summer amid interest from their local neighbors Manchester City.
Last term, Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho was in charge of Manchester United at the start of the season and the 56 year old was demanding a central defender to resolve his issues at the back and stabilize the team. But the United transfer board ignored his pleas and the club derailed off the tracks suffering a torturous season.
Now current United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a massive task of trying to fix up the problems at Old Trafford and the 46 year old Norwegian needs defensive reinforcements to take them back to the summit. But with the transfer market inflation, United will have to pay a hefty sum in transfer fees in order to land a top quality defender this summer window.
English centre back Harry Maguire has been the top transfer target for plenty of clubs in Europe and the 26 year old seemingly justifies his price tag of around £70 million. However, Premier League champions Manchester City are also eyeing a swoop for the Leicester centre back that can provide a tremendous upgrade to the current stock of defenders at Manchester United.
With the departure of Belgian star Vincent Kompany from the City of Manchester Stadium, the English champions have a mammoth task of filling in the boots of the legendary central defender.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City side have the transfer funds to splash in the summer and their local rivals Manchester United are now willing to compete for the Maguire as they need to improve on their sixth place finish on the table.
Maguire signed a contract extension with Leicester City which keeps him at the club until 2023 and is content with life at the King Power Stadium. The central defender is appreciative of his status as one of the figure heads at the club and the Foxes will not sell him for cheap because they are well aware of his quality, ability and potential.
With holes all over the defensive line in the Manchester United team, the Red Devils need a top quality defender like Maguire at the club to reform their stature and status as a big club.
