Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand who is now a renowned pundit has claimed that Liverpool’s Thiago Alcantara wanted to join United when he was at Bayern Munich.
Ferdinand praised the midfielder’s “crazy” performances, and given United’s troubles in that area, Ferdinand speculated that the Spain international may have ended up at Old Trafford rather than Anfield.
Thiago took a season to make an impression at Liverpool due to persistent injuries, but he has found his best form in a team that is fighting on all fronts. Thiago was linked with a move to United when he left Barcelona to join Bayern Munich and reconnect with Pep Guardiola.
However, Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five podcasts, that Thiago was interested in a move to United before joining Liverpool.
He said:
“Thiago has been the stand out midfielder for the last few weeks and months he’s been absolutely top. I spoke to him at the time he joined. He speaks perfect English, he was a great guy, wanted to come to United. But you look at him now and he couldn’t be happier.”
Thiago will be delighted, after all, he is a major member of a club that has won the League Cup and is still in contention for the Premier League, Champions League, and FA Cup.

Man United can learn a thing or two from the situation and must be patient in order to get the best out of their stars. Jadon Sancho, who joined for £73 million last summer, is someone Ferdinand believes might have a similar impact as Thiago next season.
Erik ten Hag will be tasked with getting the best out of his players. He will be also tasked with halting Liverpool’s successful run under Jurgen Klopp, and he will face up against former teammate Pep Guardiola.
