Rio Ferdinand apologises to Mourinho for criticizing his 2019 claim

Jose Mourinho’s statements about Manchester United coming second in the Premier League have aged ‘so, so well,’ according to Rio Ferdinand.

When Jose Mourinho was in charge, United finished second in the 2017-18 season, 19 points behind champions Manchester City.

Despite his trophy-laden career, the Portuguese believes coming second with United to be one of his greatest achievements, owing to the club’s internal troubles.

In 2018, Manchester United fired Jose Mourinho and replaced him with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. Ralf Rangnick has taken over on temporary basis until Erik ten Hag arrives, but United have yet to win the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson left in 2013.

Following United’s latest defeat, the past comments have been widely circulated on social media. Rio Ferdinand was one of those who blasted the Portuguese manager for how he spoke about the club.

But now after looking at the current crisis at the club, Ferdinand has apologized for his words. He has rather said that Mourinho words makes sense right now.

As reported by The Manchester Evening News, he said: ‘I think Jose Mourinho’s quote has aged so, so well. And me for one, I would apologise maybe to some extent in terms of the way you kind of looked at him and judged him.”

“I still think there were flaws in some of the ways he handled people and handled some of the situations that he was involved in. But in terms of looking behind the scenes, that he said in 2019 on finishing second in the Premier League, that has aged so well.”

“We can see that there’s been stuff going on that’s wrong behind the scenes, but at that time we didn’t know the extent of it. Obviously Jose Mourinho did.”

Our Opinion:

Jose Mourinho’s comments are making sense at a time where Manchester United are out of the race for the top four.

He had brought three titles at Old Trafford, not to forget that he won the Europa League in his very first season at the club. But after that no manager was able to win anything at this club.

Also, he had alot of issues with some of his players but Jose Mourinho has always been a manager who is not a friend for all of his players.

However, it’s very difficult for the club now to even stand at the second spot at the table a feat they achieved under Mourinho.

This season has been particularly awful for United, who are now in sixth place and have had a string of poor results, including a 4-0 loss to Brighton last weekend.
