Manchester United No.1 David De Gea has been under increasing pressure after a dismal outing with the Red Devils last season. The Spaniard seems to be low in confidence, partly due to his own mistakes which lead to goals. The emergence of Dean Henderson hasn’t also helped De Gea’s confidence but ex-United captain Rio Ferdinand has backed De Gea to come out it strong.
David De Gea is one of the best goalkeepers in the world on his day and still produces some astonishing saves. But De Gea has been very inconsistent for the last couple of months, which has tested the patience of Solskjaer. With Dean Henderson’s arrival from Sheffield United, the Englishman has been backed to take away the No.1 role from De Gea.
But Rio Ferdinand believes that the Spaniard has still got it in him to take him back to where he was. In an interview with TeamTalk, he said: “He has the mentality to come back and reach his levels again. We’ve seen time and again how good he can be. I think he can still be a big player for United, but he has a point to prove again now. He has had tough times before and has come back.”
De Gea surely needs to understand that he has competition now and will be dropped whenever he makes an error in between the sticks.
