Rio Ferdinand has urged Harry Maguire to leave United as soon as possible

Former Manchester United star Rio Ferdinand has urged Harry Maguire to leave the club following his exclusion from the starting lineup for Manchester United’s 1-0 victory over Wolves.

The Red Devils’ defender has made just three Premier League starts thus far, with Luke Shaw preferred at center-back in the victories over Nottingham Forest and Wolves.

Although Maguire performed well for his nation in Qatar, United manager Erik ten Hag continues to despise him. Former United defender Ferdinand believes the former Leicester City player needs a fresh challenge.

As reported by The Daily Star, Ferdinand said:

“If I’m Harry Maguire, I’m looking for a new club right now I have to be honest. You see what he does, what he’s done for England, he’s faultless, impeccable the way he plays.”

“People umm and arr, this and that, but he puts in solid performances for England. For Manchester United it hasn’t worked out for him.”

“This new manager is showing by his team selection that he isn’t going to be in the top two or three squads. If I’m him, if I was him in his shoes, I’d be going and saying ‘find me somewhere where I can enjoy my football, be playing regular’.”

Maguire has battled illness ever since his return from international duty, although he played against the Wolves and Forest as a substitute.

Raphael Varane and Victor Lindelof have both been given more opportunities than Maguire, while Lisandro Martinez will likely be reinstated to the team when he returns after Argentina’s World Cup victory. Following their 3-0 home victory against Nottingham Forest earlier in the week, a United defence without Maguire managed to keep another clean sheet.

After being introduced in the second half, substitute Marcus Rashford, who had been benched for arriving late to a team meeting, scored the game-winning goal. His fine form continues to help United grab vital points and cement themselves in the top four of the league table.
