Talking on the FIVE YouTube Channel on Youtube, Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has defended Luke Shaw and attacked Mourinho for his criticism.
The 25-year-old struggled really badly under Mourinho during his long-term spell at Old Trafford. He has since rediscovered his form under the more comfortable style of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
Shaw was among our best players last season and is with the England team at the Euros. He even assisted Raheem Sterling yesterday against Germany with a sublime pass.
Shaw likewise won his club’s player’s player of the year award last season, a merited award for his improvement. Ferdinand is bewildered by Mourinho’s latest comments for a player who he has already been criticizing the whole life. He does support Luke Shaw by stating that the manager should leave the player alone now.

Ferdinand said: ““It feels a bit personal to me. I love Mourinho. He’s a manager I would have loved to play for. But leave the kid alone. You messed up his career. He would argue Luke Shaw messed up his career. He has to take some responsibility for this period as well, where he didn’t do well under Mourinho. But leave the kid alone, you’re talking about him taking corners. Please, there’s more to talk about than Luke Shaw taking corners. I think Jose, you can tell there’s a bit of bitterness about it. Luke doing well doesn’t reflect well on Jose Mourinho. That’s the problem and where the bitterness probably stems from.”
The player had a hard time under the manager and both of them should take responsibility for their bad relationship. But now the past is gone and Mourinho is clearly still thinking about Luke Shaw.
While Ferdinand recognizes the common problem, he is sharp for the Portuguese manager to forget about the past. His criticism seems so unfair in the time where Luke Shaw has actually provided such brilliant performances.
Mourinho is free to say such things but he should rather forget about talking on stuffs related to Luke Shaw all the time. It is time for him to leave the past behind him and focus more on his work at Roma. While Shaw has gotten over their bad relation, Mourinho is as yet stuck right there.
