Rio Ferdinand has responded to Wayne Rooney’s accusation that he is arrogant, as well as going into more detail about their relationship at Old Trafford during their playing days together.
Ferdinand and Rooney were teammates at Manchester United for many years and shared a slew of major awards during Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign, but it’s evident that they weren’t hesitant to tell each other what they felt if one of them was underperforming.
Ferdinand claimed on Vibe with Five that he didn’t mind Rooney calling him arrogant and that they used to dispute all the time, with the former England defender telling Rooney to concentrate on what he did in the penalty area rather than wanting to be involved in everything else.

He said:
“It was at a signing, some of us do these things where you go and talk to an audience. They’re quite funny, you have a few beers and you get loose lips a little bit when you’re in there.
“Your guard’s down when you don’t see the big cameras and microphones. He said a few things about a few former players, he said about me being arrogant and how we argued and he told to tell me ‘do your job’ etc. He’s referring to when on the pitch we would argue, either in front of everyone at Old Trafford or in the training ground – I and he always argued.”
Rooney will undoubtedly go down as one of United’s greatest ever players, and as his career progressed, he became more of a poacher, so perhaps he heeded some of Ferdinand’s advice.
