The latest reports have claimed that Serie A outfit Inter Milan is willing to accept an offer from Premier League side Manchester United in the summer transfer window for Belgian forward Romelu Lukaku. However, the catch is the fact that the striker will be receiving bonuses along with United if certain performance criteria’s are met.
The Red Devils suffered a horrendous season in the Premier League as they finished in sixth place on the table and with no real chance of winning trophies. But Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to bolster his side for the upcoming season and has already snapped up Daniel James and Aaron Wan Bissaka this summer transfer window to improve from last season’s mess.
But there are a few players that the 46-year-old Norwegian boss needs to offload as well in order to add balance to his spending and squad as well. One player who has never really managed to win over the hearts of the fans at Old Trafford over the past few seasons has been Belgian star Romelu Lukaku.
There was a massive hype around the big and burly center-forward when he arrived at the red half of Manchester two seasons ago in a smashing £75 million transfer deal from Merseyside club Everton. But despite scoring goals on a regular basis for United, Lukaku has often been labeled as a scapegoat by most of the United faithful.
Over the last few weeks, the 26-year-old has been linked with a move to Serie A outfit Inter Milan and negotiations have already taken place over a transfer. And now the Nerazzurri are prepared to pay the whole £75 million that United are demanding but with a catch which could actually benefit both parties.
Antonio Conte’s Inter is ready to pay £60 million upfront for Lukaku’s transfer and the rest of the £15 million if Lukaku meets certain criteria’s while performing on the pitch for the Italian side. The deal that Inter are offering also includes several bonus payments for Lukaku and this could be the opportunity that the striker needs as he is eager to leave Manchester United in a bid to kickstart his career someplace else.
