Former Manchester United captain Roy Keane can envisage England manager Gareth Southgate succeeding Erik ten Hag at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils have had a mixed season under the Dutchman this season. Although they are out of the Carabao Cup and the UEFA Champions League, they are still fighting for the FA Cup title and marching towards the fourth spot in the league table.
However, recent speculations have shocked the fan base as rumours are speaking about the Three Lions boss Southgate taking over Ten Hag’s role at the Theatre of Dreams.
It is a rather annoying thing to listen at a moment when the team just secured a stunning 4-3 win over Liverpool.
Ten Hag’s future is not certain at the moment but it looks like Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his INEOS team are already planning for potential recruitments for the gaffer and the summer tour schedule.

However, few still believe that Southgate can manage United and there are chances that it may happen this summer. While talking to Sky Sports, Keane had a similar opinion on this matter as he said:
“I could see that happening (Southgate being the next United manager). His connection with Dan Ashworth, who he has worked with previously. Yeah, I’m not that surprised with it.”
This is a rather shocking prediction as the fan base won’t be happy with this recruitment option. In our opinion, it has to be either Ten Hag or any other world-class manager who has experience in managing clubs.
Southgate last managed an English club in 2008-09 and he was subsequently fired for failing to prevent Middlesbrough’s relegation to the Championship.
Man United should look away from hiring Southgate as their next manager
The English boss would be better suited for International matches but his brand of coaching isn’t made for the Premier League. His record against the bigger nations is another sign of concern.
His team has won only 32 per cent of the games against the top 10 nations. Would he be able to help United in defeating the best English and European clubs every week?

Ratcliffe’s management must assess their options and make a quick decision as they have to inform about the same to the FA and the PL.
It would be in the best interest of everyone to stick with Ten Hag or look for a top-tier manager that suits United’s vision in the long term.
