As reported by Manchester Evening News, Roy Keane who himself is a former Nottingham Forest player has praised Manchester United’s James Garner for his impressive performances for Nottingham Forest.
Roy Keane was live on the ITV studio when Nottingham Forest lost 1-0 to Liverpool in the FA Cup quarter-final.
Nottingham Forest fought hard in their loss to Liverpool. Forest’s greatest chance was with Philip Zinckernagel, but he fluffed his lines following a brilliant Brennan Johnson pass.
James Garner will now travel to England to join the under-21 squad. Since last year, he’s been in fantastic form and is having a big influence at Forest. Keane was ecstatic with Garner’s performance. Following the game, he received the majority of the accolades from the former midfielder.
He said:
“He’s got a good partnership with Yates going in the middle of midfield. I think they complement each other very well. He’s very good technically and he likes to dictate the play, sit a little bit more than Yates. Tough game for him today, but this game is good for those young players to experience playing top teams like Liverpool. It’s a great way to learn.”
Garner benefits from playing in big games like the one last night, as Keane correctly points out. He’s learning at a great pace and appears to be on track for a spot in Manchester United’s current team.
The English midfielder has scored three goals and assisted four in 31 matches for Nottingham. He also has an impressive 81% pass accuracy for the Reds. The Red Devils are in urgent need of some fresh faces in the midfield area, and the 21-year-old could be just what they’re looking for.
Next season, James Garner may have one final loan. But it’ll almost certainly be to a Premier League team, and promotion will be required to keep him.
It’s no small achievement to be praised by Keane. Garner will earn some confidence through this praise and will continue to improve for the rest of the season.
