Ruben Dias urges his teammates to ignore Ronaldo’s media affairs

Portugal centre-back Ruben Dias urged his teammates to focus on the World Cup campaign amid the ongoing Cristiano Ronaldo affair.

Manchester United striker Ronaldo spoke to Piers Morgan in an exclusive interview criticising the board and the manager. The player’s words have started a media circus all around with several outlets spoking highly about the player and his effect on the Portugal squad.

A video surfaced online in which Bruno Fernandes refused to shake hands with the striker before the training session. Several reports started talking about a rift between the two players.

Ronaldo rebuked the baseless claims and said that he was just having a fun moment with the midfielder and asked him about the reason behind his late appearance in training.

Such claims by media outlets have disturbed the mentality of the players who are unnecessarily asked to talk about the entire Ronaldo situation. Manchester City centre-back Dias urged his teammates to focus on the World Cup rather than listening to the ongoing interview saga.

As reported by the Manchester Evening News, he said:

“I don’t think Cristiano’s affairs have put a dent whatsoever into what we are trying to achieve here, so I don’t have much to say about it. “

“I think we’ve talked about this enough, there’s not much to add. As a team, we will focus on the World Cup now and not other issues.”

Ronaldo’s statements about the club were supported by a number of fans but there was also an equal response from his critics. However, the media is unnecessarily trying to force players to talk about the matter and by no means, it should affect the team’s harmony.

Ronaldo is certain to leave United either by personal will or based on the club’s decision. The legendary goal scorer will be aiming to end his international career on a high by lifting the World Cup. It will also increase his value as a player ahead of the January transfer window.

Portugal are favourite to win the prestigious title this year. Fernando Santos’s side are boasting a strong team ahead of their opening clash against Ghana on Thursday.
