Manchester United FC are in for a topsy-turvy ride in the summer transfer window, as the club looks to complete its overhaul. There have been several stories about the players about to join or leave the club this window. Now it is reported that the United are eyeing a two-for-one scoop involving Alexis Sanchez, Chris Smalling and Milan Skriniar.
Sanchez and Smalling had been sent on loan to Inter Milan and AS Roma respectively, at the beginning of the season. Both the players have been good for the Italian clubs and want to stay where they are now. United have been in talks with both Inter and Roma but haven’t agreed on a fee to sell Sanchez and Smalling.
On the other hand, the Red Devils have been keen on signing a centre-back this summer and have Inter’s Skriniar on their list. The Slovakian has found minutes hard to come-by after Antonio Conte came in and used a three-man defence system. Inter have put the defender on sale and look to cash-in on their centre-back valuing him at about £50m.
It is now reported that Inter Milan and United might relish a two-for-one swap which would not involve any cash. The deal would see Sanchez and Smalling head to Inter permanently, while Skriniar signs for the Red Devils. If the reports are to believed then this deal is going to be one of the most complicated and bizarre deals.
The fact that Smalling wants to stay at Roma, will be one of the biggest concerns in this deal. If that is agreed on, such a deal will be fruitful for both Inter Milan and Manchester United because of their different priorities. Inter would get Sanchez, who they want to sign and along with Smalling whereas United would get a world-class centre-half in Skriniar.
Although it is reported that Inter and United haven’t talked of such a deal yet, but this might be on the cards. The deal will be very hard to pull off though because of Roma’s interest in Smalling and Tottenham’s interest in Skriniar. Only time will tell if such a bizarre deal materializes or just becomes paper-talk.
