Manchester United FC are on a 16-match unbeaten streak in all competitions and a 9-match unbeaten run in the Premier League. The club and its players have looked better than ever before in the recent past and United are a free scoring team. Martial and Rashford have both reached 20 goals this season but Paul Scholes believes United still need a striker and a centre-back.
Both Martial and Rashford, with goals yesterday, reached 20 goals each in all competitions and 15 goals each in the league. United players haven’t reached this feat in a long time and finally, the strike-force seems to be in good hands. But, to add another dimension to United’s game club legend Scholes believes they need to buy a striker in the summer.
He also believes that the Red Devils will need to be in the market for a central defender. United were defensively poor against Bournemouth and will look to sell the deadwood to get new defenders. With Rojo and Phil Jones to be sold, it could finally be time for Axel Tuanzebe, but he has been injury-prone.
After Lindelof being substituted at half-time against Bournemouth, Bailly gifted the Cherries with a penalty after a terrible pass from Maguire. Even with his high price tag, Maguire has been poor defending one-on-one scenarios, and yesterday Stanislas got the better of him. Maguire has great aerial prowess but his lack of speed gets him in trouble most of the times.
There will be several defenders in the market come this transfer window, with the likes of Kalidou Koulibaly and Upamecano. The Red Devils have been long linked with Koulibaly but a transfer has never materialized. On the other hand, Upamecano is young and is defensively very stable, with his pace, he would complement Maguire well.
When it comes to strikers, the Red Devils have loads of options like Milik, Dembele, Cavani and Aubameyang. But Dembele would be the obvious choice because of his age and what he brings to the game for his side.
Solskjaer has already mentioned that this summer transfer window is going to be special and United will be in the market. The Red Devils need to make it count and get good signings to compete with the best clubs.
