Manchester United No.9 Anthony Martial has been under fire this season due to lacklustre performances for the Red Devils. The Frenchman has lacked goals despite being the top scorer for the Red Devils last season, with 23 goals in all competitions. But in his talk show with BT Sport, Paul Scholes has again reinstated that Martial is not a proper centre-forward.
Anthony Martial has faced a lot of criticism this season because of his suspension as well as his lack of goals. Paul Scholes has been a vocal critic of the French striker as he believes that Martial is not a centre-forward. The United legend has reinstated the point that he doesn’t believe Martial to be a striker and is hell-bent on what he says.
In the talk show, Scholes said: “Martial’s strength… we’ve spoke about him being a centre-forward, he’s not a good centre-forward. I don’t think he’s got that movement for centre-forward, he’s not good with his back to goal. But when he gets the ball and he’s facing someone, it’s a different position. You see him going at someone.”
Last night, against Istanbul Basaksehir, Martial played as a left-winger for most of the game and looked good down the flanks. The Frenchman surely needs to get more goals to prove his worth as a striker like he did last season leading the line. Martial needs to work harder off the ball on the pitch and shows more runs down the channels.
