Scott McTominay to miss Scotland’s next match against Ukraine

As reported by the club’s official website, Manchester United midfielder Scott McTominay will miss Scotland’s crucial Nations League match against Ukraine on Tuesday night after receiving his second yellow card of the season during their 2-1 victory over the Republic of Ireland on Saturday.

The defensive midfielder who was crucial in helping Steve Clarke’s team secure a valuable victory received a warning in the 87th minute after getting into an argument with Jason Knight of Derby County.  He will therefore be ineligible to go with the team to Poland for their final Group B1 match against Ukraine.

For Scotland to be promoted to League A, all they need is a point against Ukraine. The two teams just played on Wednesday at Hampden Park, with the Scots coming out on top 3-0.

Although Scotland will suffer greatly without McTominay on Tuesday night, United can rest a bit easier knowing that he won’t be in danger of getting hurt before the derby clash against Manchester City on Sunday.

A crucial player in United manager Erik ten Hag’s plans thus far this season, the 25-year-old has started all but one of the team’s first six Premier League games. He has managed to keep Casemiro off the field while forming a promising partnership with Christian Eriksen.

Although McTominay is now less likely to suffer an injury in the lead-up to the derby the following Saturday, he still faces a delicate situation with City. This season, he has received four bookings in the Premier League; if he receives a fifth, he will miss one league match.

However, with Casemiro waiting in the wings, it wouldn’t be a bad situation for United.
