Manchester United defeated Burnley 3-1 in the Premier League at Old Trafford today, with Scott McTominay earning man-of-the-match honors.
With a well-placed pass into the net, the Scotsman scored United’s first goal, then saw another magnificent shot deflected onto the woodwork by the goalie – leading to a Ronaldo tap-in for a second goal – and a third stopped with his fingertips by Hennessy.
The successful strike marked “McSauce’s” first league goal in 28 games, and it was well worth the wait. McTominay seemed to be content at home. Old Trafford has been the site of his last seven goals.
The 25-year-old was especially excellent in the first half, with 100 percent successful dribbles, 74 percent pass accuracy, four duels won, four ball recoveries, two successful long passes, one chance created, and, of course, the goal.

His overall numbers for the 90 minutes were nearly as good. He had 100 percent shooting accuracy, 75% pass accuracy, nine-ball recoveries, eight duels won, and five fouls won.
Playing with Nemanja Matic, a specialist holding midfielder, allowed the Scotsman to play a few yards higher up the pitch and join the attack more frequently than his customary ‘dual pivot’ role allows. He seized the opportunity and dominated the midfield from beginning to end.

The challenge is whether the academy graduate can consistently develop this type of form. A performance like this has often felt like a breakthrough in the past, only for him to revert back to poor form for the next few games.
