Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic has talked about the rumours linking him with a move to Manchester United.
The Serbian star has been a long-term target for the Red Devils and the board had tried to hold a conversation with his agent for a move this summer. However, United went on to sign Casemiro from Real Madrid and the rumours dried up yet again.
However, the 27-year-old has shown no signs of slowing down in Serie A and he has been committed to the Italian outfit. The defensive midfielder played his 300th game for the club and he opened up on his seven-year tenure at Lazio and the recent transfer rumours.
As reported by Football Italia, Milinkovic-Savic said:
“I am happy that tomorrow will be my 300th game in the Lazio shirt, I still remember the very first and all those years that have since passed. I don’t know what to tell you about the transfer market, that’s for my agents and the club to think about. I am here with a smile on my face and I’m happy.”
The Lazio star has been a consistent performer for manager Sarri and he will be a key player this season as they aim to get back their spot in the Champions League. Although the player admitted that he is happy at the club, he didn’t reject the idea of moving out in the future.
United are stacked in the midfield region as they have Fred, Scott McTominay and Casemiro playing in a similar position. With Frenkie de Jong looking like a more likely signing next season, it would be interesting to see whether the board decides to go after the Serbian midfielder.
