Spanish left-back Sergio Reguilon has officially joined Manchester United on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
This transfer comes in response to Manchester United’s need for a new left-back following an injury to Luke Shaw.
While initially eyeing Chelsea’s Marc Cucurella for the position, the Red Devils eventually shifted their attention to Reguilon. The Spanish defender’s loan agreement with United is set to last until June 2024.
Man United faced an injury crisis recently as Shaw joined Tyrell Malacia on the list of sidelined players.

This situation led manager Erik ten Hag to deploy right-back Diogo Dalot in that position, which resulted in a mixed performance against Nottingham Forest.

To address this, Reguilon is expected to step in this Sunday. Reguilon, who initially made a strong impression in the Premier League with Tottenham and gained early popularity among fans, experienced a decline in his performances and eventually fell out of favour with the club.
While talking about his move to Old Trafford, the Spaniard said to the club’s official website:
“In life, you have to be ready for everything and the chance to represent this great club with such an illustrious history is one that I could not turn down.”
“Having spoken to the manager, I know what he needs from me, and I am ready to play my part in helping the team to achieve success.”
“I know that I can contribute to Manchester United this season; I am ready to fight for this group and show everyone my qualities.”
Now, Reguilon has the opportunity to revive his career at United. While the club has an option to review the loan in January, the former Real Madrid player can use this time to prove his value and potentially secure a long-term deal.
The Red Devils are set to face Arsenal in a Premier League match at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday. Given that Reguilon has already trained with the team, he could make his debut in the starting lineup against Arsenal.
On transfer deadline day, Reguilon becomes United’s second signing. United also reached an agreement to secure the services of Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat on loan.
Amrabat’s move to United has been a topic of discussion since the start of July. The club has now completed a loan deal valued at €10 million, including an option to purchase for €20 million, which could increase to €25 million with additional bonuses.
