Manchester United FC have completed their Premier League season well and have achieved their primary target of a top-four finish.
The Red Devils have seen several players injured throughout the season but have dealt with it well enough. It is now being reported that Luke Shaw, who is out with injury, will remain on the sidelines for the rest of the season.
Shaw sustained an ankle injury against Southampton in their Premier League fixture, earlier this month, but was expected to be back. The left-back who reportedly getting better and there were chances of him featuring in the last game against Leicester City. But now it is official that the Englishman is set to miss the Europa League with that injury.
Shaw has been an integral part of the United squad this season and has played a huge role in their success. This has arguably been the left-back’s best season in his United career yet but the damage has been done again. The 25-year old left-back has had his problems with injuries throughout his career at Old Trafford.
Shaw has made 24 appearances for the Red Devils this season in the Premier League without scoring or assisting. He has also played as a left centre-back in a three-man defence system this season and has played a total of 33 games in all competitions. The English international has already missed 17 games due to injury this season and is about to miss even more.
The left-back had a horrifying triple fracture to his tibia and fibula, which kept him off for almost a year in 2016. Since he joined the club in 2014, Shaw has missed a total of 113 games for the Red Devils. Luckily for United, Brandon Williams has taken the onus on himself to replace Shaw in the left-back position.
With the Europa League in sight for the Red Devils, Williams could thrive with this opportunity. Shaw will be a huge miss though, because of his tireless running down the left-wing that enables the likes of Rashford to come inside. Only time will tell when the 25-year old Shaw will get back to full fitness.
