Manchester United were held 3-3 by Sheffield United in Sunday’s late evening fixture. The Red Devils were 2-0 down to the Blades until the 72nd minute when three Academy graduates – Brandon Williams, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford, all combined with Daniel James and company to to complete a comeback in a matter of 7 minutes.
The party wasn’t finished as Sheffield struck late on the 90th minute mark when Oli McBurnie, who initially appeared to handle the ball, scored from point blank range. The result pushes Manchester United down to the 9th place.
De Gea – 7
World class double save to deny the Blades going one up early in the first half. Denied a number of attackers multiple times. Could’ve done well to keep out the equaliser but the Spaniard already kept out a couple of sure shot goals.
Wan-Bissaka – 5
Poor game from the English lad. Couldn’t deal with Enda Stevens and Lys Mousset, who both appeared to causing serious destruction to the back line. No impetus going ahead. Was involved in the game every now and then but couldn’t create any concrete chances for the attackers to feed on. Booked.
Phil Jones – 4
Terrible defending from the number 4. Was wrestled aside by Mousset to set up the opener. Couldn’t deal physically with him or McGoldrick. Never looked to gain control of the situations and created uncertainty in the back. Was subbed out to make way for Jesse Lingard at half time.
Lindelof – 4.5
Depressing game from the Sweden International. His start to the season was quite encouraging but his current form has now completely faded out a good beginning. United have got to be looking in the market for a replacement.
Maguire – 5.5
Responsible for concession of the 2nd goal. The centre back should’ve closed in on Mousset but instead opted to sit back and failed. Pushed the line up in the latter stages and brought urgency in attack.
Brandon Williams – 6.5
Was troubled defensively all night. Wasn’t seen at ease throughout the game and was targeted at times. Drilled in to score a wonderful goal to kick start a courageous come back. Booked again.
Fred – 6
Passed the ball out to the wingers well. Created a few half chances but lacked strength at moments. Couldn’t hold Mousset in the second. Lost possession quite a few time in the opposing half.
Pereira – 4.5
Wasted a handful of half chances. Couldn’t create any big opportunities as well. Fell back in moments of dire need but couldn’t orchestrate attack. Couldnt link defence into attack.
James – 7
His pace is a big strength for United these days. Burst into positions and crossed the ball with perfection at times. Always in the midst to link up attack. A rare positive on a poor day for the Red Devils.
Rashford – 7
Kept his cool to complete a come back, only to see Oliver McBurnie equalise at the other end at the 90th minute mark. Was in the thick of attack and never kept the Blades’ back line at ease. Started poorly though.
Martial – 5.5
Wasted a few chances and shot wide a number of times from long range. Did trouble Moore in opening half. Held the ball well to set up James and Rashford a few times. His game against teams who sit back and soak up pressure is a bit questionable.
Substitutes –
Lingard – 6
Was laid with the responsibility to bring the ball ahead. Created a few chances for the attackers.
Greenwood – 7
Finished smartly for the second.
