Sheikh Jassim could turn his attention to Tottenham if he fails to buy United

According to ESPN journalist Mark Ogden said via Football London, Sheikh Jassim could turn his attention to buying Tottenham Hotspur if he fails to acquire Manchester United this summer.

The Qatari banker is currently in competition with British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe to secure ownership of a Premier League club.

Sehikh Jassim is currently leading the race to buy Man United. However, Sir Jum Ratcliffe’s bid is also an appealing option since his bid allows the Glazer family to retain a smaller stake in the club.

As things stand, negotiations with Sheikh Jassim, a lifelong United fan, are progressing well, and he is determined to secure complete ownership of the club.

Reports suggest that the Qatari banker has increased his final bid, showing his desire to purchase 100% of the club and clear its debt.

ESPN journalist Ogden indicates that if Sheikh Jassim fails to buy the club, he may shift his focus to other Premier League clubs, particularly considering the ownership of Manchester City by Abu Dhabi and Newcastle United by Saudi Arabia. Tottenham Hotspur is mentioned as a potential alternative for the Qatari billionaire.

Odgen said:

“They want the Premier League footprint. Somebody told me recently, they said that if the Qataris don’t buy Man United, they’ll be back and they might end up buying Tottenham.”

“He said, look, if you’ve got Manchester City owned by Abu Dhabi, you’ve got Newcastle owned by Saudi Arabia, if Qataris maybe buy Tottenham, then you’ve got three clubs who can pull away.”

In recent times, Tottenham fans have been vocal in their demands for the removal of current owner Daniel Levy. The club has endured a trophy drought spanning 15 years and is facing the potential departure of star player Harry Kane this summer.

Additionally, their managerial appointments have been unsuccessful since the sacking of Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019.

The dismissal of Antonio Conte in April, followed by the appointment of his assistant Cristian Stellini as interim manager until the end of the season, raised eyebrows.

However, Stellini’s tenure lasted only four games before Ryan Mason, in his second stint as caretaker boss, took charge. Currently, Ange Postecoglou has been appointed as the next permanent manager of the club.

We believe that Sheikh Jassim is very close to getting his hands on Man United and it is highly unlikely that there would be any chance for him to acquire Spurs. This could be yet another rumour that has come out of thin air.
