Shola Shoretire wins the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year

Shola Shoretire has won the Jimmy Murphy Young Player of the Year award for the 2020/21 season.

The honor is given to the young player who has had a huge effect at the lesser level. The title by and large offers acknowledgment to a youth who is being promoted as the next big thing for the club.

Throughout the long term, United has produced some incredible talents from their academy. Some of the recent winners of this honor are Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Marcus Rashford, Mason Greenwood, Anthony Elanga, Angel Gomes, and Axel Tuanzebe.

Shoretire while talking to the club’s official website said: “It means a lot to me and I’m sure it means a lot to my family as well. Especially with the history of the award and the players who have won it before me. I feel very proud to have won it and very thankful to everyone who has helped me to achieve it. I think, at the start of the season, it was a big step for me, going from the Under-18s to the Under-23s.  But I think, with my teammates’ help in training and welcoming me into the team, that’s really helped me kick on with the Under-23s to have a successful season. So it’s also thanks to them that they’ve helped me progress into first-team training so I am very thankful to teammates in the Under-23s.”

Shoretire has highlighted for Under-23s this season as well as playing for the U18 group. He is United’s top scorer in the Premier League 2 with 10 goals. This is a fabulous accomplishment, particularly considering he just turned 17 three months prior.

Shoretire’s great performances haven’t gone unseen as Ole Gunnar Solskjær gave him his Premier League and Europa League debut which shows that they are preparing him for the future.

A week ago, he was promoted to United’s first-team squad which proposes that Solskjaer may utilize him all the more frequently next season. The Red Devils will face the Wolves in their last Premier League game this year on Sunday.

The manager has effectively expressed that Shoretire may see a couple of minutes of action in a bid to rest vital players for Wednesday’s Europa League final against Villarreal.
