Should Manchester United’s Odion Ighalo start in the Manchester derby against Manchester City?

The Manchester United striker would be in view as the Manchester Derby match between Manchester United and Manchester City draws closer by the day.

The Nigerian forward scored twice to help the Red Devil march onto the next round of the FA Cup. This is a delightful moment for Manchester United and the fans as they won 0-3 against Derby country.

Luke Shaw was on target in the 33rd minutes though his goal is debated as it touched the back of Jesse Lingard before hitting the net. But Ighalo then scored the second for his United side in the 41st minute fueling the feeling he should start against Manchester City.

It was a typical striker’s goal as his positioning in the box was spot on while withstanding the pressure in the Derby defence to double United’s advantage. This was a superb showing from the striker as he’s display his quality in the Derby County contest.

This sort of performance could see him sway the heart of his manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in starting at the weekend.

With Marcus Rashford injured and Ighalo scoring twice with the second goal even better than the volley, the striker deserves a start against the sky Blue opponent on super Sunday.

He’s got the experience and the quality to deliver. He has got a massive understanding of what to expect in games like this. His maturity in the box is obvious for all to see while having a definite link-up play with the forward lines.

This has seen him flourish alongside the likes of Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes and Mason Greenwood in Manchester United’s attacking line-up. When he is in the attack for Manchester United he will get the
attention of the two central defenders which would aim to focus on him (Ighalo). This limits the attacking involvement of this defensive going player forward against Solskjaer’s United while providing the arrowhead for
his side in the game.

He becomes a focal point thus making it easy for his teammate to find someone making runs that could unsettle the defenders in the box.

With Fernandinho lacking pace coupled with City’s defensive frailties at the moment, Ighalo can be a good option upfront. This would see (Anthony) Martial and (Mason) Greenwood exhibits their driving runs from the wings while Daniel James comes in probably at some point in the game against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City as the case may be.
