Sir Alex Ferguson is leading the charge to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as Manchester United’s next manager, according to talkSPORT.
On Sunday, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fired after receiving a £7.5 million compensation package. The ax has to fall, and it’s time for the club to move on to a new era. Michael Carrick has been named interim manager for the upcoming games till United sign a permanent manager.
Many names have been linked with the managerial spot at Old Trafford including the likes of Zidane, Ten Hag, and Brendan Rodgers. However, Mauricio Pochettino is widely seen as the favourite for the job.
The Argentinian had a fantastic time with Tottenham Hotspur, ensuring the Top 4 qualification every year. He also guided the North London team to the Champions League final in 2019. He was fired in the months that followed before being hired by PSG at the beginning of 2021.
Last season, he failed to lift the Ligue 1 trophy and exited the Champions League in the semi-finals. But now he has the chance to lead a strike force that includes Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Neymar Jr.
Despite this, he is interested in returning to England next year. Sir Alex Ferguson, in fact, wants him to take over as manager of United and believes he is the right guy for the job. Furthermore, negotiations with the 49-year-old’s representatives are already begun.
Pochettino has extensive Premier League experience, as well as managing clubs deep into the Champions League. His man-management techniques and playing style also have an impact.
Regardless, Zinedine Zidane and Erik Ten Hag are also in the mix, but if Ferguson wants the Argentinian to take over, United should listen to the man who has led the club to 13 league titles.
