Manchester United former captain Chris Smalling has rejuvenated his career while he was on-loan with AS Roma last season. The centre-back has been heavily linked with Roma as the Italian club wanted to sign Smalling on a permanent basis. But it is now being reported by Sky Sports Italia that AS Roma have stopped all contact with Manchester United for Smalling after their last bid was rejected by the Red Devils.
AS Roma and Smalling were very assured of getting a deal done with Manchester United as the player wanted to go back to Italy. Reportedly, he had also missed the shoot with the United squad and was also training alone at Carrington. His move to Roma was also very close as all parties wanted Smalling to move on, except for the transfer fees weren’t agreed.
It is now being reported that talks have completely stalled after United rejected AS Roma’s last bid. The Italian side has moved their attention elsewhere as they have failed to agree on a transfer fee with the Red Devils. This won’t be good news for United, as the club had expected to bag some cash from the Smalling deal which could have been to get recruits.
Chris Smalling doesn’t want to stay at Manchester United and wants to move to AS Roma, thus sanctioning his move would have been the best solution.
