Manchester United director Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is anticipating a classical European meeting when they play their Europa League semi-final draw against Italian giants Roma.
The two memorable clubs will meet in the last in the wake of beating Granada and Ajax in the quarter-finals on Thursday. Roma played with great spirit as they overcame a disciplined Ajax side with Dzeko being their star man who scored the winner. United likewise played out an easy win over Granada.
A 2-0 scoreline in both the legs helped them notch a very comfortable victory over the Spaniards. United have reached the semi-finals stage again after they were knocked out last year from the same spot.
The Reds would be hoping to give their best this time and even Solksjaer might be wanting to lay his hands on the first trophy of his Man United tenure. United were left to go away empty-handed last year as they were on the losing side in three major semi-finals. Solksjaer knows that Roma will be a good opponent for their team and it would be a classical European match.
Solksjaer while talking to BT Sports said: “I’ve not seen too much of them. I knew they played two good games against Roma. They defend well, as Italian teams always do. We all know Edin Dzeko so every ball into the box is a dangerous one. We are looking forward to it. We’re in the semis. It feels like a proper European tie because Roma is a club with lots of history. We’ve done well against Italian sides before. We’re going into it hoping to get to the final. If we can finish the season with a trophy that’d be great.”
Both the teams would be aiming to make it to the finals and Solksjaer will have his side well prepared for the contest.
