Manchester United didn’t play with full potential in their defeat to Leipzig and it was adamant by their defensive display for the team.
Being 2-0 down inside the first 13 mins shows that United were lacking the sharpness even in their backline. The Kluivert goal came as a result of confusion between Maguire and De Gea. Being the senior players they all should have stepped forward but they were all lacking in bits and peices.
Solksjaer expected the team to do better considering that they fought back quite well but it was too late. Wan Bissaka was awfully poor against Angelino. He was not able to control the pace of the former Man city man. To this advantage, both Hiadara and Angelino were quick in their crosses and positioning. Even Maguire was too sloppy and so do Alex Telles.
After being signed for the club, Telles ahs to still show his true potential. He was hailed as a set piece master but till now he still has to show this quality. Solksjer needed a quality defender+attacker type player just like Trent or Robertson of Liverpool and so he had Telles in his plans.
But Telles was also considered poor in the match against Leipzig. His positioning and crosses were average which is not so good considering the fact that he can be dangerous as a winger as well.
Solksjaer was quite positive before the game because of the quality training sessions but he can now see that Telles still needs practice and coordination.
Solksajer said: “Today, they scored two good goals, maybe the referee should have done something for the second one when Alex gets pushed in the back, maybe we were not streetwise enough. Maybe he should have dropped and fallen on the floor, because he gets pushed in the back. The first one is something we prepared for and was not good enough. Today, it didn’t work for us. It is a difficult season, there are difficult circumstances this year and we were up for it. And the character and effort I can’t fault.”
We all want to see that Telles who once tormented the opposition when he should play for Porto FC.
We all wait for that.
