Manchester United’s defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic has claimed that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has become a better manager since when he took up the job in December and even last year.
Following a run of two wins in seven games across all competitions since the start of 2020, the Red Devils have shown some encouraging signs towards progress in the recent weeks, particularly since the arrival of Portuguese midfielder Bruno Fernandes in the January transfer market.
Although Manchester United have kept clean sheets in their last six games, Thursday’s 5-0 thrashing of Belgian side Club Brugge in the Europa League stretched United’s unbeaten run to seven games across all competitions.
The red side of Manchester has now set up a Europa League last-16 tie with LASK and as well as an FA Cup fifth-round trip to Derby County later in the season and United have high hopes of ending the season with some silverware.
Despite a drop in form, United are just three points outside the Premier League’s top four spots and making a return to the Champions League is now a realistic possibility.
Solskjaer’s job was under heavy scrutiny during the more difficult runs this season, but Matic, who initially struggled for regular first-team football under the Norwegian boss has now become an increasingly important member to the side,
While speaking to Sky Sports, the 31-year-old Serbian manager said that Solskjaer is improving the team and he is a better manager than last year, “He’s improving, for sure, getting more experience, and for sure he will be better and better, Like every manager … Carlo Ancelotti, now and 20 years ago, for sure he’s not the same. He knows more, he has more experience. For sure, it will be the same as Ole. He is a much better manager than one year ago, in my opinion, because now he knows all the players, he knows exactly what he needs to do before the game, after the game. For his job, the experience is very important.”
