Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that the defeat against Bournemouth this weekend was a step back following an impressive run of three wins in a row across all competitions.
The Red Devils arrived at the Vitality Stadium having won three in a row on their travels in all competitions but that run came to a halt as Joshua King scored the only goal of the game just before the half time whistle to hand Bournemouth all three points.
Bournemouth had not managed to score a goal for 358 minutes before United academy graduate King broke the deadlock when he swiveled and fired beyond David de Gea after spinning past United right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
The defeat against the Cherries left Solskjaer’s team in 11th place on the Premier League table with 13 points, which is incidentally their lowest return at this stage of the English top-flight campaign ever since 1986-87.
Even though United never really looked like they would win the game, 46-year-old Solskjaer spoke to reporters after the game and stated that he was hoping to take three points against Bournemouth, “You are always very down when you lose and considering the form we were in, we were hoping to take the three points,”
The Norwegian further added that this 1-0 loss was a step back but United need to regroup and go again, “It is a step back for us today, but we need to shake it off and go again. We could not capitalize on the good start and a moment of magic won the game for them, sometimes you just hold up your hands and say, ‘Well done’.”
