Dean Henderson joined Manchester United this summer transfer window as he was handed a contract extension at Old Trafford till 2025. He was expected to replace De Gea, as the Spanish international struggled with his form last season, but has been great this season. In his latest press conference, Solskjaer has hinted that Dean Henderson might start in between the sticks for United again tonight, against Istanbul Basaksehir.
The last time Manchester United faced the Turkish club, Henderson started for the Red Devils in between the sticks. Henderson conceded a couple of goals, but could have barely done anything to save the goals Basaksehir scored. In his recent press conference, Solskjaer has praised Henderson and has also hinted about his selection in tonight’s game in the Champions League.
In the press conference, Solskjaer said: “I’ve been very happy with the competition that Dean has provided for David [De Gea], and the response from David. Dean has not really put a foot wrong. He’s developing and he’s maturing along the way, which I am very happy with. I’m not going to give you the team now, [if] it’s Dean or David, I’m not going to say.”
The inclusion of Dean Henderson in the Manchester United squad has helped De Gea regain his level of consistency and concentration in the fear of losing his spot. Henderson himself has done very well whenever he has been called into action and has maintained his status well in the squad. It is only a matter of time till Henderson completely replaces De Gea, who is ageing, as the Manchester United No.1.
