Solskjaer Praises Fernandes’ Dead Ball Quality

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has praised Bruno Fernandes’ performance against Frank Lampard’s Chelsea on Monday night and said the Portuguese midfielder’s set-pieces were “top class”.

Fernandes was on corner duty in the second half for the visiting side at Stamford Bridge and his delivery was headed in by English defender Harry Maguire in the second half of United’s 2-0 Premier League win over the Blues which moved the Manchester giants within three points of the top four.

Norwegian manager Solskjaer was delighted with the box to box midfielder, who arrived at Old Trafford for a reported £47million in the January transfer window, and hailed his set-piece ability.

The 46-year-old was speaking to reporters after the win against Chelsea and explained how impressed he was with Fernandes admitting his quality on the dead ball is one of the best he’s ever seen, “He’s a top player, he wants to get on the ball, But at set-ball delivery, he’s top class, one of the better ones I’ve seen. And Harry, we know if he can get a run on the ball he’s dangerous and he got the goal.”

French forward Anthony Martial headed the traveling side in front in the first half but Fernandes was quite instrumental in keeping United ticking throughout the game. The midfielder partnered up well with Nemanja Matic and Fred in the center of the park controlling most of the game against the West Londoners.
