Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has cast an envious eye towards Premier League leaders Liverpool after admitting that his side is not yet at the level that he had hoped for them.
The Norwegian has been at the helm of the job for just over a year since initially taking on the responsibility as a caretaker but with his inconsistent team heading into Christmas eighth in the Premier League, there has been some scrutiny over his position at the club.
The Red Devils are seven points behind fourth-placed Chelsea on the Premier League table and a whopping 24 points adrift of arch-rivals and runaway leaders Liverpool.
The Merseyside giants appear well set to end their 30-year wait for a domestic title after also being crowned as European and world champions over the past seven months.
It might not be easy to digest for the Old Trafford faithful but Jurgen Klopp’s have now set the standards in English football as they are proving themselves to be one of the best teams in the world.
And while speaking to reporters the 46-year-old admitted that he is hoping for better from his team, “We’re halfway through the season. We knew this season was going to be a season of some ups and downs and this season will be used to find the team and the squad for next season. But, hopefully, if we can speed this process up by getting more results, I expect us to be more consistent, definitely more experienced and learning from these setbacks. At the moment we’re a little bit further behind than I was hoping for.”
Solskjaer then further added that he would like his Manchester United team to compete at Liverpool’s current standards, “We want to be a team that can go and dominate teams and break them down. It’s taken Liverpool a few years to get to that place and we need to keep on building because that’s where we want to get to.”
