As reported by the club’s official website, Mateo Mejia has agreed to a new contract with Manchester United.
The 20-year-old joined the Red Devils from Zaragoza in 2019 and has since featured in 21 games for the club’s youth and Under-23 teams.
While Mejia has not made his first-team debut yet, the 20-time English champions have shown their faith in him by offering him a new contract.
Mejia, who was born in Spain but has represented Colombia at the Under-20 level, has signed a new contract with the club. The young forward had a productive season in Premier League 2, scoring two goals.
Currently, United are facing a shortage of senior-level centre-forwards, with Wout Weghorst’s departure and speculation surrounding Anthony Martial’s future.

This situation leaves Marcus Rashford as the only experienced striker in the squad. As a result, the club is actively pursuing the signing of a new centre-forward, with Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur, Victor Osimhen from Napoli, and Randal Kolo Muani from Eintracht Frankfurt being linked with potential moves to Old Trafford.
Mateo Mejia, having signed a new contract with United, will aim to be part of the team’s preparations for the upcoming 2023-24 season.
Their pre-season campaign will commence with a match against Leeds United on July 12, followed by games against Lyon, Arsenal, Wrexham, Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, and Athletic Bilbao.
The Red Devils will then kick off their Premier League campaign against Wolverhampton Wanderers on August 14.
In terms of transfers, Mason Mount is rumoured to be United’s potential first signing of the summer. The club is reportedly scheduled to hold discussions with Chelsea within the next 24 hours regarding the English midfielder.
Additionally, the Red Devils are looking to strengthen their squad with a striker, midfielder, and centre-back. They may also need a new goalkeeper if David de Gea does not agree to a new contract, as his current deal is set to expire at the end of the month.
