Manchester United treble winner Teddy Sheringham has criticized Paul Pogba for letting his teammates down against Liverpool. Pogba’s red card in the second half against Liverpool was a slap on the face for a side that had already suffered a merciless beating in the first half.
Pogba was not included in the starting XI against Liverpool last week. Man United was trailing by four goals by half-time and Solskjaer decided to use Pogba in the second half.
But in the 69th minute of the game, Paul Pogba made a horror tackle and caught Naby Keita above the foot and nowhere near the ball. Anthony Taylor initially provided a yellow card but after taking the help of the Video Assisting Referee, he rightly judged it as a dangerous foul and handed a red card to the French midfielder.
Teddy Sheringham has hit out at Paul Pogba for such a nasty decision of getting away so easily and letting his teammates down.
While talking to The Sun, he said:
“You know if you put in a tackle like that anywhere near to over the ball, you’re going to get a red card. You can half understand what he’s trying to do to turn the game around and put a hard challenge in — that was the way in our day years ago but you can’t do that anymore. He knows that he’s been a silly boy.
“I’m not going to go as far as saying he shouldn’t play for Manchester United again but he’s let his teammates down because they had the rest of the second half with ten men already 5-0 down.”
Just not Paul Pogba but every Man United needed player deserved such criticism for getting beaten so easily in front of their home fans. Old Trafford never witnessed such a big defeat since 1955.
Pogba’s start to the season was spectacular but now with the turning tide, even he is getting poorer with every passing game.
Will they provide some form of consolation against Tottenham?
