Telles rejected compensation to join Manchester United

Manchester United signed Alex Telles on the last day of the transfer window, after being linked with the left-back for a month. The Brazilian international is one of the best left-backs in Europe currently and surely deserved a step up from his former club Porto. In his latest interview with O Jogo, a Portuguese daily, Porto’s president, Pinto Da Costa, said Telles forced his way out to Manchester United.

Manchester United signed Alex Telles for about £15m from Porto, which is considered as a bargain looking at Telles’ quality. Porto wanted a little bit more even though Telles had only one year left in his contract. The Brazilian had repeatedly denied contract extensions at the Portuguese club as he wanted to move to a better league.

In his interview, Da Costa said: “There are times when we have no other solution. A week or two earlier, Alex’s sister, who’s the agent, expressed his desire to leave. A week before the market closed, he asked to leave because he really wanted to go to Manchester.”

This shows the passion Alex Telles had to join Manchester United as he also reportedly declined a compensation to stay at Porto. Telles will bring attacking flair down the left flank for United and his crossing ability is arguably the best in the world. The Brazilian international has a gem of a left-foot and has a knack of scoring goals as well.
