Ten Hag could hand permanent contracts to Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst

According to ESPN, Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag could hand permanent contracts to loan signings Marcel Sabitzer and Wout Weghorst if they perform well this season.

In January, the Red Devils signed Sabitzer, Weghorst, and Jack Butland to a six-month loan deal. For United, Weghorst has already occupied a key position up front. The Dutchman has made seven appearances for the team, scoring once.

In contrast, Sabitzer has only made two appearances since his deadline-day switch. He recently made his Red Devils debut against Leeds United. However, if Sabitzer and Weghorst perform well over the next few months, Ten Hag would be open to keeping them permanently.

Weghorst joined United after his stunning performances for the Netherlands at the World Cup. In the quarterfinal defeat to Argentina, he scored two crucial goals to keep his side in the contest.

The 30-year-old has struggled since moving to Old Trafford, but he still has time to turn things around. Given Anthony Martial’s history of injuries, he should have no trouble finding opportunities.

Sabitzer has received just more than 90 minutes of action since leaving Bayern. He displayed glimmers of his potential and came close to scoring against Leeds United.

As Christian Eriksen and Donny van de Beek are both out for a long time with injuries, the Austrian midfielder has the chance to show how good he is in the coming months and get a permanent transfer.

With under 2,000 minutes played during his 18 months at Bayern, he was primarily a bench player at the Allianz Arena. Ten Hag might decide to keep Sabitzer in the long run if he can regain his creative mojo.

United will need to shell out €34 million in order to sign both Weghorst and Sabitzer permanently this summer.
