“The best i’ve been involved in”, Luke Shaw inspired by Old Trafford’s atmosphere

Luke Shaw has praised the support received by Manchester United’s fans during the team’s victory over Manchester City on Saturday.

The 27-year-old was once again given the responsibility of marshalling the defence alongside Raphael Varane. The pair were effective in limiting City star Erling Haaland’s impact on the game.

The defensive duo was strong until the end and prevented the opposition attackers from breaching their backlines. Tyrell Malacia and Aaron Wan-Bissaka also had a huge influence on the match. Following the huge victory against the Citizens, Shaw stated the Old Trafford atmosphere was the most inspiring he had seen since joining the club from Southampton in 2014.

While speaking to the club’s official website, Shaw said:

“It’s incredible, for me, I’ve been here a long time now, I think eight years. For me, today, the atmosphere was the best I’ve been involved in. It shows the fans are with us, they’re pushing us in the right direction, and I hope they really enjoyed it today.”

“We love the atmosphere; we love them being there and we are glad to be making them happy again.”

Pep Guardiola’s team took the lead through Jack Grealish after 60 minutes of frantic play, but United answered with a goal from Bruno Fernandes that some said shouldn’t have stood since Marcus Rashford was involved from an offside position.

Just minutes after scoring the first goal to give United the lead, Rashford would find himself in the spotlight once more as he scored the game winning goal. Grealish and other players got into a spat in the tunnel after the game because of the controversy surrounding it. The City goal scorer was reportedly “very disappointed” following the loss.

However, it won’t change the result or the hard work of the United players. The fans were behind them from the first whistle, and their influence was clearly seen in the final scoreline.
