Manchester United FC are linked with a host of players this transfer window as the club is looking to challenge for the Premier League. The Red Devils have secured Champions League football for next season and are now aiming for Premier League glory. In their pursuit of centre-backs, United are now looking at 23-year old Spanish international, Pau Torres of Villareal.
The Red Devils have been currently linked to quite a number of centre-backs like Skriniar, Ake and Koulibaly. But the Manchester club is now keen on getting Pau Torres who could potentially be Maguire’s centre-back partner. Lindelof and Maguire have done very well this season, as United are the third-least goal conceding side in the Premier League this season.
But the United duo has had a few issues when they face fast-paced strikers against them because of their lack of speed. As United play Champions League football next season, Solskjaer is concerned about his centre-back pairing and wants to strengthen his defensive department. Pau Torres is the most recent player to be linked with a move to Old Trafford and his stats show why.
The 23-year old centre-back has played 34 games in La Liga for Villareal in which he has also scored a couple of goals. The left-footed centre-back has a good passing range and is quick, which would complement Maguire’s quality. Torres doesn’t jump into tackles and has a calm head on his shoulders which will always be a bonus for his side.
Signing Torres will not be easy though as United aren’t the only side to be keen on securing his signature. The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea are also looking for centre-backs and are in talks with Villareal for Pau Torres. Even if United manage to lure the defender, they will have to pay about €65m to Villareal.
The Spaniard is young and has the potential to become a great centre-back and is surely ready for the step up. United are surely looking for a centre-back this season and Torres might be one of their priorities this window. The transfer market is still open for two months and more from Torres will surely come from United.
